A Career Guide for New Graduates: Where to Start?

A Career Guide for New Graduates: Where to Start?

A recent graduate unsure what to do in working life? A practical guide to starting your career well.

If you are in your final year at university or a recent graduate and you are asking "what am I going to do in working life?", let's talk. That feeling of uncertainty is completely normal, and you are not alone.

Why Is Uncertainty So Common?

New graduates think a great deal about which company and which role they could work in, factoring in the degree they studied. Employer brands create a perception, and students try to choose target companies accordingly. It is an uncertain process, and I understand it well.

Start by Knowing Yourself

Think about the course or project you have enjoyed most so far. Look at your strengths and your interests. Then research and try to understand where those translate into real companies and real roles.

Experience and Support

Gain as much experience as you can, and get mentoring and coaching. Notice yourself, and learn about companies and positions at the same time. Make the most of internships and graduate programmes — these experiences are your Working Life 101.

"What If I Can't Find Work I Love?"

This fear is very common and very understandable. But don't worry, you will start somewhere. If you are unhappy, change is possible whenever you want it. Your first job doesn't have to be your last; it is simply a starting point.

Feeling anxious is normal. As long as you move forward with awareness and clear goals, things will fall into place. What would you like to clarify today?

Would you like to turn your strengths and interests into concrete career steps? The Transformation Package (6 sessions) is designed for a healthy start.
